Gary Swanger

In 1971, Gary began his career in the metal service center business, and during these 40 years he has been an inside sales person, outside sales person, office sale manager, product manager and branch manager at 3 different locations. The experience of these different positions have provided Gary knowledge and contacts that will make a difference. Since 2005 when he and Tip started Carolina Metal Supply, they have been delivering an unwavering commitment to quality, service and innovation.

Tip Robinson

Tip Robinson has been servicing customers in the metal distribution industry for over twenty nine years.

Before starting Carolina Metal Supply, he worked 23 years with Tull Metals in various sales and management positions. He was the general manager in New Orleans for 5 years and also the general manager for Birmingham for 5 years. During those years, both districts won many quality and service awards. He takes pride in his knowledge of metals and the ability to be proactive in servicing customers. He has been married to Sally for 30 years and has two grown children (Trey and Brittany). When not at Carolina Metal Supply, you can find him at Edisto Beach, a golf course, or a Carolina football game.

Tip Robinson and Gary Swanger had previously worked together at J.M. Tull Metals Company.  During a Carolina football tailgate, they discussed the possibility of starting a metal supply company to service customers in the Upstate part of South Carolina.  It was decided to pray about this endeavor for 40 days and see where God was to lead them.  During this time they felt that God’s will for them was to start this business.  The two met for 9 months to come up with a business plan.  The company was organized May 2005 and began operation July 2005.  God has blessed the company with many customers that depend on them to supply their metal needs.
